Servies onderhouden: zo verzorg je borden, kommen en kopjes

Beautiful tableware makes an ordinary meal special. By washing carefully and storing cleverly, you can enjoy your favorite plates, bowls, and cups for longer. Proper care starts with the product information: not all tableware has the same finish or usage instructions. These tips will help you use your tableware with care.

First, check the instructions for your tableware

Porcelain, ceramics, decorations, and colored rims may have different care instructions. Therefore, do not assume that every plate is dishwasher-, microwave-, or oven-safe. Check the suitability for the specific product. If the information is missing, ask about it before using the tableware in that way.

This also applies to a Bricard Bonnes porcelain tableware set or a Bricard Fleury blue-and-white tableware set. The material name and appearance do not indicate which appliances are suitable.

Washing by hand: gently and carefully

Remove loose food residue and use a soft sponge or cloth with mild dishwashing liquid. Handle decorative rims carefully and prevent plates from striking the sink or other parts hard. If the care instructions allow it, you can soak stubborn residue.

  • Do not use steel wool or abrasive pads.
  • Wash delicate or decorated pieces separately.
  • Rinse off the dishwashing liquid thoroughly.
  • Dry with a clean, soft cloth.

Avoid sudden temperature changes: do not place a hot tableware item directly in cold water. Let it cool down slowly first.

Tableware in the dishwasher: give it space

Is your tableware dishwasher-safe according to the product information? Then arrange the pieces so they do not clink together and the water can reach everywhere. Place bowls at an angle, keep cups stable, and check that the spray arms can rotate freely. Choose the program and detergent according to the instructions for the tableware and the machine.

A full dishwasher does not have to be an overcrowded dishwasher. When plates are packed tightly together, residue can remain and the rims are more likely to come into contact.

Let tableware dry properly

Only store plates and bowls once they are dry. If you use a drying rack, make sure the pieces are stable and that air can circulate between them. A rack with a separate cutlery compartment helps you keep cutlery separate from delicate cups.

The Cheffinger drying rack with drip tray and cutlery basket is an example of such a layout. When choosing, check that the dimensions fit your countertop and tableware.

Stack plates without unnecessary pressure

It is better to make several low, stable stacks than one tall stack that is difficult to lift. Keep special shapes together and do not place heavy dishes on top of small cups. For tableware you use infrequently, you can use soft, clean dividers to limit direct contact during storage.

Preferably remove a plate from the stack rather than pulling it out from the middle. This prevents the underside from rubbing against the surface of another plate.

A simple routine for daily use

Clear away residue after eating, wash the tableware according to the instructions, let it dry, and put it back in a fixed place. Check pieces for cracks or damaged rims before using them again. It is better to replace a damaged piece.
